Today is my last day at Sun Life of Canada, Phils. It’s been a rollercoaster year and I definitely enjoyed my time there. However, I think it’s time to move on. Normally, I’d go all sentimental on you and spout nostalgia, but I’m really beat. I need a little rest before moving on to a new job that starts tomorrow. I’ll post more details tomorrow.

No Blogs

I have not blogged for the past few weeks. This is not in keeping with my goal of recording my thoughts for posterity. I’ve been on a downward spiral for the past few weeks. I’m gonna need a lot of of support. Anyway, I learned that I have to blog about the bad times as well as the good times.

So I’ll do it.

Next time.

Which means I’ll probably forget to do it again.

Thoughts on Christian Mudslinging

In the older days, there were a few topics that could get one killed during a drinking session - among them politics and religion.

It’s the latter that bothers me. It’s oxymoronic to have people cursing each other out over who knows Jesus better. And sadly some of these discussions turn tragic - sinabing Jesus is love e!, <stab>.

Since things have gone high tech nowadays, these debates have found a new arena, the airwaves. Now you have ‘religious’ leaders all claiming to be the ‘chosen’ ones of God truculently denouncing other denominations. And these other denominations, not wanting to be one-upped, have their own mud slinging program.

If you know what I’m talking about there are a few programs with their ‘religious’ hosts trading spicy barbs and dissecting everything that comes from the mouths of their rivals. It’s actually funny, but I only see one guy laughing his heart out - the Adversary.

I hate debates, especially the way we conduct them. The thing is, in a debate, only one person can win, its either side A or side B.  And with the FIlipino’s penchant for choosing sides, it doesn’t matter whether A is right or wrong, kung Kapuso ako, Kapuso lng ang papanoorin ko. Kung Kapamilya, kapamilya na lng papanoorin ko, no matter how corny.(Sorry about the above rant, it won’t make sense to many people:D)

We polarize towards the debaters, and the closer we are attracted to them, I think the farther we drift from Jesus.

Here’s my suggestion. These leaders should encourage their flock to look to Jesus, draw near to Him. Keep the arrow pointed away from themselves and redirected upwards. They have to remember that they are not the stars of the show, they merely pave the way for the Groom.

Yes, I know, the spotlight is fun, intoxicating, but ulitmately, it’s not theirs. Let go.

Live to 92 and Still Be as Strong as a Horse

Get a load of this! The guy is 92 years old and could still probably beat me at arm wrestling. Wiki up this guy, Jack Lalane. I tell you, he’s an inspiration to health.

Here’s one of his more memorable quotes. "My secret to health is this: if it is man-made, don’t eat it. If it tastes good, spit it out."

I don’t know about the spit it out if it tastes good part (who would want to live life on a bland diet? That’s cruel and unusual punsishment!), but I agree with keeping to natural foodstuffs.
